Do You Have Klout?

Do you know your Klout score?

I had never even heard of Klout until several days ago when a new Twitter follower of mine mentioned her score (which was fairly high). I had no idea what she was talking about so started to check into it. In a nutshell, it's an interesting analysis of how much your social network content (tweets, blogs, fb etc) influences or impacts other people. Major companies like Nike, Disney, and GM use Klout to determine how well their social networking influences people they are trying to reach.

From www.Klout.com:

"The Klout Score measures influence on a scale of 1 to 100, with 100 being the most influential. Klout uses data from social networks in order to measure:

How many people you influence; (True Reach)
How much you influence them; and (Amplification)
How influential they are (Network Score)"

True Reach is how many people you influence when they act on or share what you have written. My true reach score is 68 (pretty good!).

Amplification is how much people respond to your message. The more people act upon your content, the higher your score. My amplification score is 23 (guess I have to work on this).

Your Network Score is how much top influencers (people with high scores) respond to your messages. My Network Score is 43 (okay)

My overall Klout score is 34, apparently up 5 from a few weeks ago. According to the site, the average score is 20. Although I could be doing a lot better I am apparently above average and improving, so I guess what I'm writing and tweeting must be getting better!

Afternoon in Mystic Seaport, CT

This past weekend my husband and I drove to Connecticut for a little get-away. Our first destination was the beautiful seaside community of Mystic Seaport. This is an historic area known as the center of shipbuilding since the 1600's. More than 600 vessels were constructed along the Mystic River from 1784-1919 during the boom of the American maritime industry. Towards the end of this period, and as a result of the Civil War, there became a decline in wooden shipbuilding... sailing gave way to steamships and railroads and the wooden boats were soon turned to firewood. As the nation's seafaring history was disappearing, three residents of Mystic banded together to preserve the history and, in 1929, they created the Marine Historical Association known today as Mystic Seaport.

In the 1940's, Mystic Seaport acquired the Charles W. Morgan which was the country’s last wooden whaleship from the Yankee fleet. The Association moved in historic buildings from across New England and before long Mystic Seaport was developed into an authentic seaport village. During the next 50 years, Mystic Seaport grew tremendously and collected over 1 million images of maritime photography, nearly 500 boats, and two million maritime artifacts. It is now recognized as the nation's leading maritime museum.

Today, Mystic Seaport is a beautiful destination filled with history, great restaurants and shopping. As it turned out, last weekend there was a food festival filling one of the downtown
streets where local restaurants were selling tastes of their most popular dishes. Unfortunately, we discovered this after we had just eaten lunch - but no complaints, the restaurant was fantastic, our table on the deck was right on the dock so a fantastic view, awesome drinks (my favorite Strawberry Daiquiri for a warm day), and amazing food (lobster & shrimp crepe, seafood topped potato skins, lobster roll (me), baked seafood medley (my husband).

After lunch, we decided to cross the draw-bridge to get to the downtown shopping. As quickly as we started walking across, the lights started to flash, the bells rang and the barriers started lowering. A little nervous, we started running so we would make it and all we could hear was the laughter of people on their boats yelling "Hurry, Hurry, HA HA!!" We were a little embarrassed by the attention but we made it and the downtown shops were great.

After spending a beautiful afternoon in Mystic, we descended upon Foxwoods Casino for the night. Let me say that we are NOT gamblers but the place is such an experience it is fun to go to every now and then. We had gone about a year ago (my first time there) and actually won several hundred dollars on the slot machines. As I quickly found out this weekend, that experience was obviously beginner's luck to draw us in because I had put that money away and we lost it all in no time flat this weekend. Won't be going back there in a hurry but we still had a great time!

Treatboxes for Troops - Auction Starts Today!

Treatboxes for Troops is a non-profit organization which raises funds to help cover the costs of mailing treatboxes to our troops.  As written on it's facebook page, the organization's mission:

"to help a soldier whether he is in a foreign land, or just learning the ropes at boot camp, getting something from home and knowing that people are thinking about them is a huge pick-me-up. Many Soldiers don't have someone that can do that for them! We want to put a smile on that soldier's face that doesn't ever get a package"

The positive response from these efforts is overwhelming and very much appreciated by the men and women who are so generously serving our country.

A Few of My Fun Frenzy Purchases

Our Promotional Frenzy Team has so many talented and varied creators.  I have purchased many, many (MANY) wonderful products from several of the members of the team over the past 5 months.  I would be hard pressed to choose any favorites, so I thought I would highlight just a few to give you a taste of what this great team has to offer!

My first purchase in my first team bnr was from Crimson Hill Soaps & Scents.  I love her soaps... they are so moisturizing and smell great, come beautifully packaged and I have since bought several more!  They make great gifts too.

Another great purchase was this pretty stained glass jewelry box from GaleazGlass.  Kelly was actually the one to invite me to that first bnr and to the team and her work is beautiful!  The blue color of the glass is gorgeous and I love the way the copper and pewter butterfly contrast the blue.  I keep my earrings in this jewelry box and my only regret is not buying a bigger one because I have bought so many new earrings on Etsy in the past several months!

I keep this beautifully decorated bird house by MoanasUniqueDesigns out on my screened porch so I can see it all the time.

The blue flowers on this bird house go perfect with the blue floral cushions on my wicker furniture and I love the way she added hummingbirds and butterflies to the floral design and then a little ladybug on the top!  It's beautifully done!

And yes, I have definitely broken my diet more than once.  These s'mores from KaitlynandKylies are to die for!!

And naturally when you eat something as delicious as the s'mores, you get thirsty so I've also indulged in a few Cosmopolitans brimmed with wonderful sugars from DellCoveSpices.  They really do make a martini taste (and look) just that much better!!  Diet?  The heck with the diet!!

So this is just a small sampling of the items I have purchased in the past few months from members of the talented Promotional Frenzy Team.  I will do another post at another time to highlight yet some more fun items that I have bought - believe me there are many!

Riley

Well, Mr. Riley has arrived on the scene and, yes, life has drastically changed for the next few weeks!  This little guy is a 4 1/2 pound loaded bundle of energy that doesn't stop!  But wow, is he ever cute.

Thank you to everyone who voted on his name last week.  Unfortunately, even though my husband, son, daughter and I had come up with the short list of names, when push came to shove we could not get a consensus (husband being quite obstinate!)  So as it turned out, we had to take a 2 hour drive to Cape Cod on Saturday, the day before we were to pick up the new pup and would need to have a name for it to be registered.  I was none too pleased that we could not agree (or more to the truth, one person couldn't agree with the rest of the group) so I copied off 12 pages of puppy names from the internet and with 3 of us confined in the car for a total of 4 hrs (and another on the phone) we went through every last name on the list. We would come to a few that were "okay", came up with another short list,  but when I came to the name Riley everyone's eyes lit up and we knew immediately that was the one.  It was a hard fought battle but in the end the name is perfect because I'm sure he will definitely live the life of Riley!!

Our older dog Trevor is not quite sure about Riley just yet.  Riley's exuberance is pretty overwhelming for him right now and although he is warming up a little, Trevor still bolts faster than I've ever seen him move when Riley runs up to him.  There have been a few growls too.  He's also not liking it too much when he sees the little one in his spot on mom's lap.  So there's a ways to go before they become "buddies" but I'm sure it will happen at some point.  In the meantime, this is a full time job keeping them both happy and making sure my furniture and shoes aren't getting chewed up! The little bugger... I sprayed the bottom of the furniture with Bitter Apple to keep him from chewing the fabric, so what does he do but gets down underneath and gets it from the back side!  Arghh!  He's no dummy.

There's definitely not much else is getting done these days.  I really need to get back up to my work area. Amazing how such a little thing can turn your life upside down.  But that's okay.  Puppies, like children, are only young once... I'm enjoying every minute of it!!
